Tell us a little about yourself (what would you like people to know about you?), your background, heritage, family, what part of the country do you live in?, etc...

I am of Puerto Rican descent.  I was born & raised in Florida,  in an English speaking household.  My grandparents lived downstairs from us,  my grandmother cooking rice & beans, arepas, plantanos, arroz con gandules,  pasteles, & pastelillos.  She is now in her nineties,  & cooks vegetarian pasteles  & pastelillos special for me.

What was it that sparked your interest in becoming an artist, how did you get your start?

I am a self taught painter & have been driven to create since childhood.

Who/What is your inspiration?

My paintings are dream inspired.  I sketch after dreaming,  or from images I see as I am falling asleep.  I take pictures of the environment around me, & when ready to create I use these images in combination with a sketch to create a painting.  Sometimes I surround these images with whimsical patterns of fish,  frogs,  & other wildlife.

How do you want others to perceive your art?

For me the paintings are prayers & visualizations for the environment around me.  It is my hope that viewers take notice of these treasures  and protect them.

Share a rare fact about yourself.  (can be something silly, fun or even serious)
I once ate too many mangoes at one sitting,  came in contact with the skin,  & became allergic to my favorite fruit!   (I still eat them sometimes.)

What words of inspiration can you share for artists that want to follow in your footsteps?
Surround yourself with truly devoted spirits who believe in your artwork as your life's work.  Keep your ancestors entertained,  and you will have support in  the spiritual realm.
